Roman Izquierdo Bouldstridge is an architecture and interior design studio based in Barcelona. The innovation and conceptual thinking behind its work reflect a continuous search for new forms of expression. Its creative process is rooted in the pursuit of the beauty of simplicity, seeking to understand the nature of existing spaces and their surroundings. Its projects blur the boundaries between the artificial and the natural, creating spaces defined by calm and harmony, where light plays a poetic role.
The studio works across different fields of design, from architecture and interior design to furniture. Roman combines his professional practice with teaching and research. His creative sensitivity and influence of Japanese culture are reflected in an architecture where nature, light and time converge to create warm and atmospheric spaces. He studied architecture at the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB) and began his professional career working at the Japanese studios of Junya Ishigami and Kengo Kuma. In 2014, he founded his own practice in Barcelona.
The studio was invited to participate in the 2021 Venice Architecture Biennale, Time Space Existence, and was a finalist in the Dezeen Awards for Emerging Interior Designer of the Year. In recent years, its work has received recognition through prestigious international awards, including the Iconic Awards, presented by the German Design Council, the Architecture Madrid Awards (AMA), the International Design Awards (IDA), and the Rethinking the Future Awards. The studio has also been a finalist for the SBID International Design Awards, presented by the Society of British Interior Design, the WIN Awards by World Interiors News, and the Building of the Year Awards.
Roman is currently a professor at ELISAVA, Barcelona School of Design and Engineering, where he teaches on the Master’s Degree in Interior Design and Interior Architecture. He has also taught at various institutions, including IED Barcelona, Istituto Europeo di Design, and LxS Foundation as part of the Europe Architecture Summer School. He also teaches the course Japanese-Inspired Interior Design and has taught at Artidi, Barcelona School of Visual Merchandising, where he has taught Light, Concept and Form, Materials and Dialogue with Space, and Commercial Interior Design.
